Job Summary

As an Official Veterinarian, you will play a vital role in maintaining high standards of animal health and food safety through official inspections and regulatory compliance. Your expertise will support our mission to uphold animal welfare and ensure the integrity of the food supply chain. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to public health and international trade while working within a dynamic, global team.

We are looking for someone to join the team working 20 hours per week on a 12 month maternity cover. This would also involve working within Exports, and clinic work. Across Redruth, Treburley and Plymouth.

OV Duties

  • Conduct thorough inspections of animals, carcasses, and related products at various facilities to ensure compliance with legal standards.
  • Verify adherence to animal welfare regulations during all stages of processing and transport.
  • Collect samples for laboratory testing to detect diseases or contaminants, ensuring food safety.
  • Review documentation such as health certificates, movement logs, and inspection reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders including farmers, processors, and regulatory agencies to address compliance issues promptly.
  • Maintain detailed records of inspections, findings, and actions taken in accordance with official protocols.
  • Provide expert guidance on best practices for animal handling and food safety procedures.

Clinic Duties

  • Performing basic clinical services and carrying out health checks
  • Carrying out vaccinations and boosters
  • Microchipping

Export Duties

  • Completion of EHCs (Export Health Certificates)
  • Inspecting export vehicles, finished goods, integrity of packaging and labelling
  • Providing audit verification / photographic evidence of the export process
  • Sending the appropriate documentation within the agreed timescale
  • Building relationships with all stakeholders

Experience

  • Proven veterinary experience with a strong understanding of animal health management and welfare standards.
  • Excellent communication skills for clear reporting and collaboration with diverse teams.
  • Ability to interpret complex regulations and apply them effectively in various operational contexts.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and organizational skills necessary for meticulous record keeping.
