E&J (Eville & Jones) is a major provider of Official Controls to the Food Standards Agency. We also provide an ever-growing array of services to both the public and private sector including Export Certification, portal inspection, training, and consultancy.

 

Due to continued growth, we are seeking to recruit an Administrator to join us in providing essential administrative and coordination support for E&J’s Dead Wild Bird Programme and involves facilitating the reporting and collections on behalf of APHA.  The programme is an important component of the UK’s Avian Influenza detection system.

 

The primary tasks of the role will be the recording of bird location data received, assigning valid collection to our national team of collectors, logging of collection data from the collectors, and subsequent laboratory results.  All of which need to be undertaken within strict timeframes and in accordance with contract protocols.

 

The role will work alongside the Programme Manager, and supports operational efficiency, data integrity, and compliance, and will act as a central point for tracking, verification, and documentation, throughout the collection and reporting process.

 

The workload on the programme is subject to a degree of seasonality, so the successful candidate will be required to provide administrative support to other programmes, as and when required.

 

Main Duties & Responsibilities:-

  • Receive, review, and log incoming reports accurately across multiple spreadsheets.
  • Assess reports for completeness, relevance, and viability, and allocate valid cases based on location.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date status records, noting allocations, outcomes, and any incomplete or duplicate reports.
  • Ensure adherence to data protection, confidentiality, and organisational policies.
  • Communicate with internal teams to clarify details, flag issues, and follow up on missing information.
  • Record laboratory results and run data searches as needed.
  • Verify data accuracy and correct errors to maintain integrity.
  • Respond professionally to live and historic enquiries.
  • Handle high‑volume communications with precision and professionalism.
  • Coordinate with Operations Managers and Resource Coordinators to support smooth service delivery.
  • Liaise with the public, labs, collectors, and stakeholders to gather information and provide updates.

 

Skills and Experience Required:-

  • Proven experience in fast and precise data entry.
  • Background in administrative or clerical roles, with experience validating and cross‑checking information from multiple sources.
  • Competent user of Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Strong organisational, time‑management and multitasking abilities.
  • High level of accuracy with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to identify data anomalies.
  • Confident communication skills, engaging effectively with internal teams, the public and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently under pressure, demonstrating resilience in repetitive and high‑volume environments.
  • Proactive, inquisitive and committed to delivering high‑quality work.
  • Collaborative team player who follows tasks through to completion.
  • Comfortable working to deadlines and following structured processes and criteria.

This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week – Monday to Friday.  The role can be fully office based or hybrid, but with at least 2 days per week at our Head Office in Leeds (Thorpe Park, LS15).  There may be a very occassional requirement to provide cover on weekends or Bank Holidays.
